Collaborative Care with BIRTH PARTNERSHIP MIDWIVES in Calgary

We work closely with your midwives, with all teams at Birth Partnership. Whether it is prenatal or postpartum, our therapists are highly trained to take care of all of your needs. Read below to learn more and go ahead and book your FREE phone consult if you require more information or an Initial Assessment at any of our locations: Douglas Glen SE, Inglewood, and Airdrie.

Prenatal Care

Care during pregnancy can include treating and preventing issues early on, and labour prep in the third trimester.

When is the best time to start? As early as possible, as activating pelvic muscles and doing exercises is easier to reduce. However, it is never too late, so if you are already in the third trimester, Pelvic Physiotherapy can make you feel more comfortable, reduce aches/pains and maintain your fitness.

Around 32 weeks we start to prepare for labour, including going over breathing, perineal massage, and pushing techniques. You may attend  by yourself, or with your partner.

Postpartum Care

Postpartum our focus is clearing you for intercourse, physical activity and guiding you towards reaching your fitness goals. Alongside this, we would check for the following:

  • Diastasis Recti or Ab Separation
  • Abdominal Muscle Strength
  • Pelvic Organ Prolapse (aka organs or vaginal walls sitting low)
  • Internal scar tissue or around the perineum
  • Pelvic floor muscle strength

When to book? Usually we see clients at 6 weeks postpartum, and the first few weeks you will already have your exercise program set up if you were seeing us during pregnancy. If you are new postpartum, we will set you up with your exercise program based on the assessment and guide you towards how many treatments you might need in this first appointment. Sometimes people need just one appointment, otherwise it could be several depending on what is going on and your symptoms.
